The article studies the process of forming the museological knowledge during the second half of the 16th — the early 17th centuries. This phenomenon is analyzed within the context of the development of culture. The author identifies the circle of key persons and basic texts constructing the museology at this stage. Main attention is paid to the treatises of samuel von Quiccheberg, Gabriel Kaltemarckt and Francis Bacon.
