The report, first, summarizes the achievements of the national art history of the post-Soviet period in studying S. F. Shchedrin's creative heritage and considers them as the basis for creating a catalog reasonné of the artist's painting. Secondly, on the material of the artist's first known painting, the author touches upon the possible expertise and attribution problem, which, most likely, will have to be solved by the cataloguers.
