Sense of Agency (SoA) refers to the feeling of voluntarily control over our actions and their consequences. A group of 69 participants (aged from 18 to 34 years) took part in a series of experiments that were aimed at testing the influence of overcoming a conscious “obstacle” on SoA. We modeled an obstacle with conditions of compatible /incompatible liminal/subliminal priming. According to our hypothesis, SoA ratings were higher in conditions when participants reacted to a liminal incompatible prime, i.e. when they overcame an “obstacle”. This result was limited to a certain type of experimental design.
