This paper uses corpus data of contemporary Japanese to analyze the role of adverbial means of conveying one type of aspectual meanings, namely, plural action. This type of taxis feature is not regularly express in Japanese verb morphology. Therefore it needs to be compensated in both conceptual and evaluative levels of expression. Conceptual compensation becomes necessary in cases of lesser common knowledge between communicants, or less contact possible, primarily in mass-media and blog writing. Evaluative function comes forward in manipulative speech, foremostly when addressing the public. The data show, that these two semantic areas, objective and subjective, appear combined, with no clear distinction between them, in most lexemes of the respective semantic field.
