Abstract
The article presents the result of a study of preschool children’s emotional competence and
its relation to parent-child emotional communication. The article highlights that various components
of preschool children’s emotional competence closely interact with each other. It also underlines that
girls have a higher level of emotional competence than boys. The analysis of the interaction between
various components of emotional competence and parent-child relationships shows that children’s
emotional competence is predetermined by their parents’ emotional interaction with each other and
the results are different for boys and girls.
