Abstract

The work is devoted to a comparative analysis of the images of the main god of the Greek and Roman pantheon - Zeus. The parallels are drawn between the patterns of early and classical Greek art, which, in turn, are contrasted with the patterns of Roman art. Comparison of images is carried out on the basis of literary sources, based on the religious, historical and philosophical context. The article presents the concept of Zeus as the highest manifestation of nature, characteristic of the period of the Crete-Mycenaean civilization. Also considered are works of art created in the classical and archaic periods of the development of Greek civilization, reflecting the male principle in the image of the ancient god. The third group of images are examples of Roman art, which cause anthropomorphism and desacralization through the inclusion of features of Roman emperors in the image.
