Abstract

Frederick V of the Palatinate was crowned as king of Bohemian in 1619; however, his party suffered a devastating loss in Battle of White Mountain in November of 1620 and the family was forced to flee to Netherlands. In 1621 the emperor publicly declared the Elector Palatine out of favour. In Netherlands the Wittelsbach family actively tried to restore their good name modeling their former way of life, ordering symbolic art portraits.
