Abstract
The history of restoration of social psychology in Russia in the midst of XX century is described in the article. The discussion on social psychology subject that was initiated by A. G. Kovalev in the article published in Bulletin of Leningrad University in which he had proposed the establishment of new field in psychology is analyzed. Sequence of events in which brad discussion on social psychology problems had being unfolding can be tracked. Three main points of view on social psychology subject and its status as an independent science are given. Each of these points has been considered. The first one was supported by G. V. Osipov, V. N. Kolbanovskij i A. G. Zdravomyslov, the second one - by K. K. Platonov, A. G. Kovalev, V. N. Myasishhev and P. M. Yakobson and the third one - by E. S. Kuz'min, Zh. F. Leni and V. I. Selivanov. The conclusion that the reviewed discussion reflected the existence of a number of approaches and the absence of clear and single understanding of the issues is dawn. Dispute concerning social psychology subject between leading domestic social psychologists is continuing thus reflecting the topicality of the problems under discussion.
