Abstract

The paper focuses on issues concerning cultural adaptation of children's fairy-tale literature. The following key concepts such as "national linguistic world picture", "cultural adaptation", "children's fairy tale literature", "literary tale" have been considered. Various strategies of cultural adaptation and its relationship with translation have been highlighted and studied. The similarities and differences in the original plots of foreign-language fairy tales and their Russian adaptations have been reviewed. Culture-specific elements of the original text that contribute to successful cultural adaptation to the host culture have been described. Such concepts such as cultural adaptation and translation have been distinguished. A particular attention is paid to the fact that the cultural adaptation of fairy tales may be considered as a part of the dialogue between cultures, since such works are saturated with all kinds of national and cultural components. The conducted analysis has shown that the cultural adaptation of fairy tales can be regarded an independent literary work based on existing foreign-language originals.
