Abstract

This work analyzes three films - Ingmar Bergman's Maiden Spring based on his 1972 story The Last House on the
Left by Wes Craven and the 2009 remake of The Last House on the Left directed by Dennis Iliadis. "Maiden's Spring"
is a drama, and the last two are usually referred to as "horror" ), I will consider them in terms of their impact on Hollywood
horror in general, without delving into questions of belonging to a particular trend / subgenre. It is also worth noting
that Ingmar Bergman's film is not directly related to Hollywood, but it needs to be touched upon within the framework
of this study, since Source Girl inspired Wes Craven to create one of the most significant horror films in American cinema
history. Analysis of The Last House on the Left of 1972 and its 2009 remake will help to trace some changes in genre
laws and trends, to understand why and for what technical and plot adjustments are made in the remake, what socially
significant issues directors raise in their films , and most importantly, that all these changes speak about the society and
the problems that concern it.
