The article shows the social importance of religious discussions and the church poetry impact on ideological conflicts in the Byzantine society. Asymmetrical Christology of St. Cyril prepared the way for Chalcedonian and Neo-Chalccdonian synthesis. The Byzantine hymnography reflects and develops Mariological themes of St. Cyril. As for Chrtstological themes, the most important arc those of incorruptibility of Christ's body, of kenosis (or humiliation) of Logos and life-giving character of Christ's death.
