Abstract

The configuration of the heliospheric current sheet (HCS) can be estimated through the sector structure of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). According to [1], who analyzed IMF sector structure back to 1926 using the proxy data from [2], the HCS was shifted (or coned) southward since cycle 16. Due to such HCS configuration the effect is often compared with «bashful ballerina». In [3, 4] we infer the IMF sector structure back to 1844. This allows us to investigate HCS asymmetry through much longer period. We found that during solar activity cycles 14–19 the HCS was shifted northward, and during cycles 9–13 – southward. Similar changes in the north-south asymmetry were found in the proxies of the polar faculae numbers. We suggest the alterations of the N-S asymmetry are regular and occur every 50–60 years.
